Southern Railway Construction Organisation was formed to execute major projects sanctioned in Southern Railway. The Construction Organisation is headed by Chief Administrative Officer under the control of General Manager/Southern Railway. Construction wing mainly execute new line works, gauge conversion, doubling. In addition, this Organisation also undertake construction of road over bridges, major throughput enhancement traffic facility works, modernization of workshops, staff quarters and other projects costing more than Rs. 3 cr. The Construction Organisation is having separate Engineering, Finance, Electrical, S&T, Personal and Operating branches for executing these works. It closely coordinates with State Government officers and staff for development of transport infrastructure in the state of Tamilnadu, Kerala and Union Territory of Pondicherry
